Building upon a groundswell of voices for change, jurisdictions across the U.S. are seeking new models for the treatment and care of emerging adults (ages 18 - 25) in the criminal justice system. This webinar will launch the publication of a series of three Key Element Briefs produced by the Emerging Adult Justice Learning Community at the Columbia University Justice Lab, examining specific emerging practices and offering guidance on key elements important to consider in both the design and implementation of the innovative practices. Our distinguished speakers will provide highlights of the “Key Elements” focusing on the development of specialized courts, specialized probation, and specialized correctional units.
Panel Speakers include:

Bruce Western, Bryce Professor of Sociology and Social Justice and Co-Director of the Justice Lab at Columbia University
Katherine (Katy) Weinstein Miller, Chief Probation Officer for San Francisco’s Juvenile Probation Department
Hon. Edwina Mendelson, Deputy Chief Administrative Judge and Head of the New York State Unified Court System's Office for Justice Initiatives
John Laub, Distinguished University Professor Emeritus in the Department of Criminology and Criminal Justice at the University of Maryland, College Park
Quincy Booth, Director for the D.C. Department of Corrections (DCDOC)
Frankie Guzman, Director of the Youth Justice Initiative at the National Center for Youth Law
Tyrone Walker, Associate at Justice Policy Institute, and former mentor in the Young Men Emerging Unit at the D.C. Jail
Lael Chester, Director of the Emerging Adult Justice Project at the Columbia University Justice Lab.
