What's New in Youth Justice

  • The JDRC continues to add free on-demand classes to its CLE library for members! Click HERE  for more details.
  • The JDRC has limited funds available in its Trial Attorney Assistance Program for FY 2025-26. These funds may be used for expert evaluations and/or witnesses or investigators and are open to public defenders and appointed counsel representing youth under the age of 18. For more information, email us at JDRC@OSAD.state.il.us.
  • The Illinois Criminal Justice Authority has published a research brief, "Racial and Ethnic Disparity in the Illinois Juvenile Justice System: A Research Brief." The brief examines racial and ethnic disparities among youth in Illinois by analyzing data across five critical decision points: arrest, diversion, detention, secure confinement, and transfer to adult court.   • The Gault Center has published a new resource guide for youth defenders dealing with immigration issues.Youth Defender Guide: Upholding the Rights of Immigrant Youth in Juvenile Court. You will need to be registered with the Gault Center to access the guide. If you do not already have access, you can register HERE

  • The Civitas ChildLaw Center at Loyola University has created a resource for undocumented parents on how to prepare in case of detention or deportationGuide for Parents in Illinois. The Guide is also available in Spanish. The Guide is not intended as legal advice.
  • The JDRC Youth Case Law Summaries have been updated through May 31, 2025.
