IT’S TIME FOR TRANSFORMATIVE JUSTICE
Disabled people are overrepresented in prisons and jails across America. In addition, disabled people are sixteen times more likely to die in encounters with law enforcement than nondisabled people. The overexposure to the violence and harms associated to the criminal legal system that disabled people experience reflect the scope of disability criminalization. This panel will examine the contours of disability criminalization within and beyond traditional carceral spaces, like prisons and jails, and identify proposals for transformative change.
The panel, presented by Northwestern Law's Center for Racial and Disability Justice will be moderated by Professor Jamelia Morgan and will include panelists Liat Ben-Moshe and Linda Steele.
