About this event
This National Townhall sponsored by the Gault Center will provide youth defense attorneys and advocates with an opportunity to develop concrete strategies to fight ordinary injustices in juvenile court. Utilizing the National Youth Defense System Standards as a framework, participants will explore practical litigation and policy strategies to strengthen youth rights, disrupt carceral systems, create opportunities for transformative change, and bring forth true liberation and freedom for all youth.
Participants will also have an opportunity to connect with each other about systemic issues in local jurisdictions to create synergy and build toward collective action.

Welcome and introduction to the Townhall
Presentation on the power of disruption, using a constitutional rights framework based on the National Youth Defense System Standards and User Guide
Small groups, based on constitutional right (tentatively listed below):
Right to post-disposition representation (System Standards 2.4 and 6.2)
Right to probable cause determinations (System Standards 3.4)
Right to counsel during questioning by police, probation, or other state actor (System Standards 3.4)
Right to equal treatment (System Standards 6.1)
Right to evidentiary hearings to determine whether a youth should face adult prosecution (System Standards 6.3)
