Achieving a Better Disposition: A Youth Sentencing Symposium

About this event

The Illinois Juvenile Defender Resource Center presents this in-person youth sentencing symposium at Starved Rock Lodge in Oglesby, IL. This program will bring together youth defenders from across Illinois to learn about all aspects of youth sentencing. Attendees will learn about recent changes to the law on youth sentencing in Illinois, how to efficiently gather mitigation to aid in sentencing, what programs are available to be part of a youth sentencing plan, and how to create and advocate for the best disposition plan for their youth clients. In addition to hearing from practitioners working in youth sentencing, attendees will hear from an expert in counseling and negotiation experienced in working with youth in the criminal justice system and will give practical insight on how to work with your clients to create a successful sentencing plan and how to negotiate for that that plan. Attendees are expected to earn 5 hours of professional responsibility CLE credit.
