About this event

The National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers would like to extend an invitation from our colleagues at the Association of Prosecuting Attorneys to an important webinar aimed at reducing the impact of racial bias in prosecutorial charging decisions.

This presentation is hosted by the Yolo County District Attorney’s Office (California) and the Computational Policy Lab on the groundbreaking implementation and achievements of Yolo County’s Race-Blind Charging policy and program. Yolo County and the Computational Policy Lab’s expert presenters will provide a comprehensive understanding of the strategic approach that seeks fairness and impartiality at the outset of charging decisions. This session will provide a detailed overview of the sophisticated software program that redacts both direct and indirect references to race and heritage in police reports to reduce the likelihood that implicit and explicit racial biases affect prosecutors’ charging decisions.
Key Takeaways:
- Insight into the conceptualization and implementation of Yolo County’s Race-Blind Charging policy.
- Understanding the role of technology in redacting race-related information from police reports.
- Exploration of the positive outcomes and successes achieved through race-blind charging practices.
- Implications for improving equity, transparency, and trust within the criminal justice system.
- Strategies for adopting similar practices in other jurisdictions.

Don’t miss this opportunity to gain valuable insights into a pioneering approach that is transforming the way justice is pursued in Yolo County and beyond. This webinar has been approved for Continuing Legal Education in the state of California. This training is supported by Grant No. 2019-YA-BX-K001, awarded by the Bureau of Justice Assistance.
