The Gault Center and the Georgetown Juvenile Justice Clinic &amp; Initiative invite you to the 2022 Racial Justice Training Series.<br /><br />In this session, Prof. Kristin Henning and Mary Ann Scali will be joined by Eric Campbell, formerly incarcerated founder of Some People Understand Differently (SPUD), Inc.; Carmen Daugherty, Deputy Executive Director of Advancement Project; and Kristen Rome, Co-Executive Director of Louisiana Center for Children&#39;s Rights.<br /><br />Please join us to:<br /><br />* Understand research on implicit racial bias and adultification; the similarity of adolescent development across race, ethnicity, and geographic region; and the resilience of young people;<br />* Learn how the dehumanization and adultification of Black youth leads to racial disparities in transfer, JLWOP, and other severe sentences;<br />* Review the historical treatment of Black youth in the evolution of the juvenile court system;<br />* Discuss the impact of incarceration and conditions of confinement on adolescent development and the physical and mental health of youth;<br />* Strategize about how defenders can use this research to enhance their case and policy advocacy. <br /><br />This session will be built around Chapter 10, The Dehumanization of Black Youth: When the Children Aren&#39;t Children Anymore, of Prof. Henning&#39;s book, The Rage of Innocence: How America Criminalizes Black Youth.
