Xavier is a Senior Advisor with the Campaign for the Fair Sentencing of Youth. At 13, he was given a 25-year sentence for his involvement in a gang-related first-degree murder in Illinois. After serving 13 years, McElrath-Bey was released and earned an MA from Roosevelt University. He worked for more than five years at the Northwestern University Juvenile Project as a clinical researcher/interviewer.
