Join the National Center for State Courts for the third webinar in the three-part series “Competency and Restoration Reimagined from Practice to Possibility.” The series offers insights and recommendations for improving competency to stand trial systems, focusing on:
1) Current laws, cases, and issues
2) Competency process improvements
3) Competency alternatives
In this final installment, "Competency alternatives" learn about alternatives to traditional competency processes and their pros and cons. Panelists will discuss how competency is often used with the intent to connect individuals to treatment. They will also explore the many alternatives to competency that often have better results both in terms of public safety and behavioral health outcomes.
