Presented by: Angela Downes, Assistant Director of Experiential Education, UNT College of Law<br /><br />COVID and the associated isolation has negatively impacted the mental health of lawyers. A recent ABA survey found that problems with alcohol and drug use has increased dramatically recently and a record number of lawyers have contemplated leaving the profession because of stress, economic challenges, and other hardships. This session will discuss vicarious trauma—a behavioral and emotional response related to indirect exposure to trauma—and the impact on practitioners’ professional and personal lives. Participants will explore strategies to prevent and address vicarious trauma and will learn about available resources.
