About the Statewide Women’s Justice Task Force of Illinois

Launched in July 2018, the Statewide Women's Justice Task Force of Illinois became the first of its kind in the nation to unify hundreds of women in support of a historic process to investigate the mass incarceration of women, and to develop a robust strategy to address it.

Elevated by the leadership of directly impacted women, the Task Force engaged over 500 women – women throughout the system, family members, advocates, social service providers, judges, prosecutors, corrections officials, policymakers, academics, health professionals and more – on solutions.

The Task Force spent over two years exploring false narratives that fuel women’s mass incarceration and convening hundreds of stakeholders around the state to develop strategies to address the following three goals:

1. CUT the women’s prison population by 50%+ and beyond

2. REDUCE the harms caused by current policies and practices

3. IMPROVE health, well-being and outcomes among women, their children, families and communities

Join us as we unveil this nationally significant report and host a series of panel discussions on dynamic solutions to transform justice with and for women.
